Currency
The Chinese Yuan is the currency in Tibet. One US $ equals 6.64 Yuan, according to the prevalent international rate of exchange which, of course fluctuates from time to time. Major foreign currency cash and travelers’ cheques are accepted at branches of the Bank of China, in Lhasa and in hotels, and banks on the overland route to Lhasa. However, you are required to change foreign currencies at authorized banks and hotels, retaining the receipts. International credit cards such as those of American Express, Visa and Master Card are accepted on the Bank of Chinna’s prime branches (including Lhasa) and at premier hotels that have regular foreign clientele. All charge a small commission for the exchange. |
