Visas
As is usual with most countries one visitor, a visa for Tibet, a part of China, is mandatory. A passport which carries validity for at least a further six months is required. Chinese government rules allow you to obtain a visa for Tibet form their embassy’s Chinese Visa Consular Section in Kathmandu. (Upon receiving your confirmation to travel to Tibet through the services of Mountain legends and on receiving a photo-copy of your passport, we will obtain the necessary visas for you.)
To get the visa, it is highly advisable for you to be in Kathmandu two or three days before your intended departure from Kathmandu for Tibet. The Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu issues valid visas on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The charges for Individual Single Entry Visas to China are:
Mainland China (which includes Tibet): Normal Urgent Very Urgent American nationals: US $ 142 US $ 167 US $ 180 Foreign Nationals other than US: US $ 45 US $ 68 US $ 83
For Group Visas (Single entry only) : American nationals: US $ 142 US $ 167 US $ 180 Foreign Nationals other than US: US $ 45 US $ 68 US $ 83
When returning to Nepal, a 30-days Nepalese visa can be obtained at the Sino-Nepali brother check-point at Kodari while driving back from Tibet or, if you are flying back from Lhasa to Kathmandu, at the Immigration Counter at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu.
To avoid unnecessary hassles, it is recommended that you obtain a DOUBLE-ENTRY VISA in your own home country. It should be strongly noted that individual visa are not issued by the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu and cross-border travel for individuals is not allowed. Group Applications for visas are highly recommended. |
