Taking photographs
Photography is permitted practically everywhere in Tibet except at airport, strategic bridges and certain sensitive areas. Taking photos of, of near, military installations and areas where troops are stationed, is strictly prohibited. Monasteries also permit photography but at a certain charge per camera. Some Tibetans and While home-video cameras and 8mm movie cameras are permitted in Tibet, you will need special authorization to use 16 mm and 35 mm cameras. Portraits of the Dalai Lama are in great demand among the Tibetans but to distribute them to locals is strictly against Chinese law. To ignore this rule and them to be caught will invite a heavy fine, even imprisonment and mean a great deal of trouble for your local handling agent, not to mention inconvenience for your own group’s companions. |
