Health

Your health while on the trip is of prime importance to us each of our teams always carry medical kits with medicines for any medical eventuality, including mountain sickness, diarrhea and for bronchial problems. The latter so because most foreign visitors often fall prey to the high dusty air of the plateau, our medical kits include drugs which are not easily available in  Tibet and our Sherpa staff are trained in identifying symptoms and form of sickness and the administration of the medicines needed.

For symptoms of acute mountain sickness (AMS), Diamox is also carried and taken during acclimatization 24 hours before beginning to go to high altitudes. If the trip entails going up to really high altitudes, the Sherpa team also takes along oxygen cylinders. Should a client fall really sick due to AMS at very high altitude, the Sherpa team will also have with them a Gamow bag.

In case of an emergency, pre-arranged evacuation procedures will be activated to take the sick person down to lower altitudes or to the nearest hospital, upon arrival in Tibet. It is advisable not to over-exert yourself, acclimatize gradually and drink plenty of fluids (NOT alcohol). You should also be careful about food that you are not familiar with but learn to grow used to it, slowly.
